Goldleader is a collection rather than a conceptual whole. Leader is the beginning tape spool and this album was my first and produced at my home studio. Knowing that the currently demented British music industry favours production over song, my lo-fi instincts were aptly named after the pilot in Star Wars who albeit heroically, gets shot down. I use the word ‘eclectic’ advisedly; but the intent is definite, a dynamic range like a one CD Beatles’ White Album. Speaking honestly, I mastered onto MiniDisc, an experiment at the time, and within my budget, so some of the mellow songs are more sonically upfront, whilst some of the stadium-rock numbers lose a little bass here and there. Although its not an atomic disaster, please forgive me. |
